The other day I was thinking about some really tough challenges we've been through, and through that I was remembering a song Wendy and I with the help of a friend, Lance Stevens, wrote around 2004. I was thinking, "Man that song is really appropriate right now." The problem though is that we never could really find a chorus for it. Riding around in my truck last week, I asked the Lord if He could give me the lyrics and melody to a chorus, and within about a minute, I had the whole thing. Some of this recording (the guitar part) I had recorded back in 2004, and then it sat there on a hard drive for the last several years. So for the last week, I've been working on finishing the recording and the mixing of it. I've been thinking that perhaps it could minister to at least somebody out there. To me this songs speaks about the difference between how we feel, and what the truth is about suffering. Suffering is holding Jesus close, and Him holding you closer. We hope the honesty of this song and the hope it brings will illuminate the beautiful character of God. I hope this song ministers to some of you out there as it has to us.
Lyrics:
Oh my God I'm crushed to pieces
I need you more than ever my Lord Jesus
I need to know, "Are you on my side?"
My heart is wax; pain's flame draws near
Blind in desperation it seems so unclear
Jesus, "Are you on my side?"
It's Your side closest to me
That was pierced upon that tree
As the blood and water flowed down on my brow
I said, "I'll never let You go, no matter how hard the wind blows."
But it was You this whole time holding on to me.
When it turns out okay and I'm alright
I've left my pain no more wars to fight
Jesus, I don't wanna leave your side
In this grave of suffering there's this ember of hope
Victory's sheen bursts forth and the veil has been torn
Jesus, You'll never leave my side
It's Your side closest to me
That was pierced upon that tree
As the blood and water flowed down on my brow
I said, "I'll never let You go, no matter how hard the wind blows."
But it was You this whole time holding on to me.
