The other day I was thinking about some really tough challenges we've been through, and through that I was remembering a song Wendy and I with the help of a friend, Lance Stevens, wrote around 2004. I was thinking, "Man that song is really appropriate right now." The problem though is that we never could really find a chorus for it. Riding around in my truck last week, I asked the Lord if He could give me the lyrics and melody to a chorus, and within about a minute, I had the whole thing. Some of this recording (the guitar part) I had recorded back in 2004, and then it sat there on a hard drive for the last several years. So for the last week, I've been working on finishing the recording and the mixing of it. I've been thinking that perhaps it could minister to at least somebody out there. To me this songs speaks about the difference between how we feel, and what the truth is about suffering. Suffering is holding Jesus close, and Him holding you closer. We hope the honesty of this song and the hope it brings will illuminate the beautiful character of God. I hope this song ministers to some of you out there as it has to us.

I originally wrote this song about fear and worry - and wanting to change, but not really knowing where to start; or even how. This song really wasn't high on our list of priorities as I felt as if we had better songs to spend time recording, but I couldn't really shake the feeling I had to get it out there. Once we started recording it, something unexpected happened.

I was mowing my grass one day, when the Lord showed me that the song He gave me so long ago, actually had a totally different intention and meaning to it.

"Deliver Me" is about a guy that has a stroke and is stuck in his house alone on the floor. He's crying out: "Deliver me, and I'll be whole - Deliver me, into your arms..."

When I was recording it, I kept "hearing" in my mind the sound of a cassette tape rewinding - interrupting the flow of the verse. I wasn't sure why, but I went with it. The other night when I was listening back to it, I felt as if the Lord impressed on me that sound represents the guy replaying his life back as he lays there...then it goes into the first Chorus of just myself and guitar in a room (that's him). In the background you hear people praying and wailing intensely. This was another thing I kept "hearing" when I would listen back to what I had recorded. Again, I just went with it...and again I was shown that part represents people somewhere praying and crying out - interceding for him. They don't know exactly what for or the situation, but they pray nonetheless. Many times you may not know that Jesus intercedes to the Father for you. You may even think He's forgotten about you, or that you are alone in what you are dealing with, but He's there interceding for you just the same.

This song came from a dream I had. Early before anyone awoke, people would quietly slip from their beds and meet in a beautifully cleared area "in the most secret place" to spend time with Jesus. It's a deeply personal song about the beautiful character of God in the midst of regret.

The song is two-fold. It's simply about a child who hears a bump in the night and is scared, and so he runs crying out for his father. This song is also a metaphor.
